Thank gawd for that, you've put me out of my misery. Rolleyes I must have filled a page with numbers without getting the answers. I envisaged my beard having grown down to my toes and being knee deep in sheets of paper covered with dawdlings sitting on my rocking chair humming " I'll get you eventually, you bar steward but if not stick this on my epitaph to keep someone busy at the graveyard!" Big Grin

The temptation is to quickly write down the equations:

Veggie+JJB = 2
Veggie+Boss = 3
JJB+Boss = 4

Then adding them together get 2x(Veggie+Boss+JJB) = 9

so

Veggie+Boss+JJB = 4.5 which is obviously not right.

The easiest way to visualise the problem is ti divide the bed into 12 pieces ( LCM I think of 2,3 and 4).

Then:
 2hours Veggie  + 2 hours JJB do 12 units of flowerbed. The left hand side is time and right is work, could use =, but may be better -> to show that different measures.
Anyway, we can write:
2Veggie + 2JJB -> 12
3Veggie + 3Boss -> 12
4JJB = 4Boss -> 12

or

Veggie + JJB  -> 6
Veggie + Boss  -> 4
JJB + Boss  -> 3

which means that Veggie + JJB do 6 units, half the plot in an hour etc.
adding the 3 together we get
2( Veggie+Boss+JJB)  = 13 or all 3 working together for 2 hours would be able to do 13 units.

So 12 units, the actual plot size, in 2/13x12 hours or about 1hour 51minutes.

So for the time the Boss saves by helping, he might be better employed brewing up.
