Quite a tall thing. Very upright not a sprawled.

Is it a knapweed/centaurea of some sort? Looks like a hard head. My Verbena bonariensis looks a bit like your plant at the moment.

Nope - not verbena Bon.
And that is it - it’s not something that the petals have fallen off.
I’ll go and get a bit and give you a close up
