Red Spider Mites? - MartinH - 13-06-2021 Are these red spider mites on this potted rose in my greenhouse? Lots of dust-sized specs scurrying about through their webs. I've taken the pot outside into the fresh air and given it a soaking. Any suggestions, other than to nuke the greenhouse from orbit? Thanks! [attachment=3131] RE: Red Spider Mites? - Roitelet - 13-06-2021 Leave it outside and spray regularly to keep up the humidity and you may get rid of them. RE: Red Spider Mites? - MartinH - 14-06-2021 I put a spoonful of cooking oil and a spoonful of fairy liquid into a sprayer full of water today and gave the rose and the dahlia that was next to it a good soak. I also sprayed a couple of spare pepper plants to make sure that it doesn't hurt the plants, because there's some yellowing on all the peppers that I fear is down to the spiders as well. If nothing dies in a few days I'll start regular repeat spraying and see what happens. Did you have any success with this Martin? RE: Red Spider Mites? - MartinH - 05-08-2025 (05-08-2025, 09:22 PM)Mark_Riga Wrote:Well, I think it helped. It didn't get rid of them altogether but as I recall the spread stopped.(14-06-2021, 11:16 PM)MartinH Wrote: I put a spoonful of cooking oil and a spoonful of fairy liquid into a sprayer full of water today and gave the rose and the dahlia that was next to it a good soak. I made the mistake of not cleaning out my sprayer afterwards and it took ages to unclog it next time I used it ![]() The spiders haven't been nearly as bad in subsequent years. I just try to keep the humidity up on the cucumber plants because it seems they go for those first. |
