Dodgy runners - Admin - 23-05-2021 All bar 5 of my runner beans have come up without a growing tip or leaves? Just a stump....anyone had this before? I have just nuked some compost in the microwave to ensure there are no hidden bugs. I first noticed this a week ago but everything else sown in the same compost is fine. Any clues? RE: Dodgy runners - Small chilli - 23-05-2021 I’ve had them come up like that before. They seem to grow ok eventually. I check If they have good roots and leave them to it for a while. I have no idea why some do it. RE: Dodgy runners - Scarlet - 23-05-2021 Are you growing them in pots? Or open soil? It's usually a maggot in the soil. If the weather is warm it doesn't happen so often. Start them off on Tupperware pots on damp kitchen roll. So they aren't hanging around. Bean seed fly.... https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?PID=884 RE: Dodgy runners - Scarlet - 23-05-2021 I soaked mine for a couple of hours on thursday evening and promptly forgot about them! Lay them on kitchen roll in lidded containers on Friday - potted up yesterday. [attachment=2961][attachment=2962][attachment=2963] I have plenty of seed if you want some? RE: Dodgy runners - Admin - 23-05-2021 In rootrainers Scarlet...thanks for the offer but I have plenty of seed. Thanks for the link |
