Lablab beans - Veggie - 24-04-2021 Lablab/Dolichos/Hyacinth beans have the most amazing seeds...flat black with a white edge..........and I have a few.. Has anyone grown them - or eaten them? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lablab https://www.gardenorganic.org.uk/sites/www.gardenorganic.org.uk/files/sns/factsheets/FactsheetLablab.pdf RE: Lablab beans - JJB - 25-04-2021 They certainly look interesting, but I'm not sure I'd bother. Never heard of them before. RE: Lablab beans - Small chilli - 25-04-2021 Like JJB I’ve never heard of them before. They have got my attention. I like the look of them. Especially the purple ones RE: Lablab beans - Eyren - 25-04-2021 They look very pretty, but I prefer to steer clear of anything containing hydrogen cyanide! RE: Lablab beans - Veggie - 25-04-2021 They're like "ordinary" beans - we know not to eat beans raw and to make sure they're boiled before eating them so lablabs are much the same. If I can grow some, it'll be for the flowers first, maybe eat the pods when I know a lot more about them. RE: Lablab beans - Eyren - 25-04-2021 The article said "boiled well with several changes of water", which sounds like a lot of faff to me - at least red kidney beans only need boiling for ten minutes! RE: Lablab beans - Admin - 26-04-2021 Many everyday fruit in the Rosaceae family, such as apples, apricots, bitter almonds, cherries, crab apples, damsons, hawthorn berries, pears, peaches, plums and sloes, have stones that contain small amounts of amygdalin, and other cyanohydrins like mandelonitrile. RE: Lablab beans - Veggie - 26-04-2021 So many common foods have components that can be used medicinally or have side effects. Fortunately I don't have an ology in toxics or I would be worrying about everything I ate - like the rhubarb (oxalic acid) I've just eaten for breakfast. RE: Lablab beans - Veggie - 27-06-2021 [attachment=3248] Finally planted the Lablab seedlings - the purple leaved things. I hope you will post some pictures when they are fully grown |
