Stones. - Vinny - 09-04-2021 I am digging up loads of stones on my plot and wondered whether there were any good ideas of how to get rid of them or what I can use them for. I will probably have about three of four wheelbarrow loads up til now with the number increasing as the days go by. RE: Stones. - Mark_Riga - 09-04-2021 I've got an old bath I'm going to use for growing mint in. I just need to move it into its final position then I'll half fill it with stones and top it up with soil and compost mixed. Also I've been filling a rut in the grass verge a bit down the road opposite a field entrance where tractors have been going in and out. RE: Stones. - Spec - 09-04-2021 If you have a hut at the plot make a hard pad in front of it, or use them to make permanent paths RE: Stones. - Vinny - 09-04-2021 (09-04-2021, 06:09 PM)Spec Wrote: If you have a hut at the plot make a hard pad in front of it, or use them to make permanent pathsThe problem with that is weeds will grow through them? RE: Stones. - Vinny - 10-04-2021 I've found in the past that if you use stones for a path etc the weeds always manage to get through. Then you can't hoe them and have to pull them out by hand. I thought about digging one of my beds soil out to one foot deep and adding stones to bottom then replacing topsoil? The other daft idea I had was building a stone and cement pillar either side of my entrance gate and setting a planter on top? I have always fancied an arch at my gate and I could just build around the arch up to fence level. RE: Stones. - Vinny - 10-04-2021 Just had another thought. A seat made from stones in a sunny position? RE: Stones. - Small chilli - 12-04-2021 I’ve been doing a bit of stone picking as well . [attachment=2671] [attachment=2672] [attachment=2673] That will be the edging for my cottage garden beds/paths. My rule of thumb is if I can’t manhandle it by myself it won’t get kept. RE: Stones. - Veggie - 12-04-2021 They're Rocks, not Stones and they make Vinny's Stones look like pebbles. |
