I finally managed to coax a ranculus into flowering but mine are white.I didn't buy any white but I seem to have a couple in the mix! I like pinks and oranges usually. I have got pink picotee but they haven't flowered yet - they are outside. I think some of the brighter ones were those cheap packs you can get from Wilco/green grocers- everyone says theyhavent got enough petal count but for a couple of pounds I thought I would try. They look fab mixed into the others. RE: Scarlets Cut Flower Patch 2022 - doublyjonah - 18-04-2022 I do love my cheap Wilko packs. They look great in a bunch as you say. I certainly wasn't thinking about petal count and I'm sure variety in appearance and fullness is a positive for bunches. Really love the colour. Theyre beautiful, I for one would buy those and I don't normally splurge on cut flowers. One of the best birthday presents from my dear departed mum was a promise of a bunch of flowers every week from the shops where I did her shopping. I would never have bought them for myself, but had to or she would nag. The Peter Nyssen orange I bought all failed.... I complained and they sent me some new ones, one or two of those made it. So I missed the boat. I will research more for next year... but hope these make new claws. RE: Scarlets Cut Flower Patch 2022 - Scarlet - 28-04-2022 So since o started putting flowers out I've sold flowers everyday. I had orders for 8bunches this morning! I had to make a mad dash around the field over the wall for some cow parsley. Ranunculus are still going strong. But I definitely need more foliage plants too. I love the anemones but some of the stems are quite short. Sown today Artichokes About to do some more ammi and daucus... not sure if that's too late? Just for back up really. Wondering what else I may be thankful for slotting in a small space. I put in my sweet williams but the stems that have grown were a bit bent and flopping down. I'm hoping the new growth will be a little more upright.[attachment=4690] The photo doesnt really do these justice. They looked lovely in the hand. RE: Scarlets Cut Flower Patch 2022 - Veggie - 28-04-2022 Do you grow Honesty? Lasts for ages in a vase and is so colourful and easy to grow. Its grows itself here.................and the dried seedheads are a bonus. RE: Scarlets Cut Flower Patch 2022 - Scarlet - 28-04-2022 No I don't- it does grow as a weed here. I always forget what it looks like and weed it out! I've just a couple of stems that have managed to make it but they are quite short.... I think it's because it so dry. Some of my tulips are about 4 inches tall Will try to cultivate a dedicated patch! RE: Scarlets Cut Flower Patch 2022 - Scarlet - 30-04-2022 So an update on how my seedlings are doing so far. I've a 3/4 dug bed... the remaining bit has gone like concrete so I've had to leave it. I've planted in sweet williams a few days back and then in went some carnations. The sweet williams have straightened out a bit but the carnations looked a little floppy today - though we did have a hard frost last night and I did loose some of my love lies bleeding in the greenhouse and a Friwnd text me to say did I have anymore bean seed! She does the same every year - always starts too early. This bed has been covered in weed membrane. I'm trying to keep some of the weeding down by using it on some beds. [attachment=4707] The Daucus and ammi have started to put on some growth [attachment=4708] RE: Scarlets Cut Flower Patch 2022 - Scarlet - 30-04-2022 The snap dragon and larkspur bed - I may regret adding that extra row it is a bit wide to reach to the middle. I tried to fashion together some sort of horizontal netting but it's rubbish - maybe have to go back to the drawing board on that one. [attachment=4709] It's of bindweed popping up already |
