RE: The build - JJB - 20-06-2022 ^^^ wot she said, we're learning all sorts of things. RE: The build - Can the Man - 20-06-2022 Thanks for the explanation SC, fascinating especially with the solar panels. RE: The build - Vinny - 20-06-2022 Its good that a house can be orietated at the design stage to take full advantage for the positioning of solar panels. I don't think I've seen solar panels mentioned? but imagine they will be used. Many years ago, before the bridge was built, I visited the Isle of Skye in my campervan and remember then that all the roofs appeared to be corugated iron so its interesting to note this tradition is for all of the islands.. Like everyone else on the site I am enthralled by what you are doing and well impressed! RE: The build - Small chilli - 03-07-2022 The last log has been milled. [attachment=4996] [attachment=4997] Got the last of our boards. Some extra fence posts, a couple of 6”x 6” and a few random other sizes, just in case. RE: The build - SarrissUK - 03-07-2022 Amazing! Well done! That is just such a beautiful sight RE: The build - Veggie - 03-07-2022 A couple of years ago, I bet you never thought you'd be milling wood to build your own house! Its a fantastic achievement. RE: The build - Small chilli - 03-07-2022 You’re right. Never would I imagined anything so incredible. And I do imagine some really odd stuff . I’ll be honest I didn’t really think the milling was that bigger deal . Yes definitely a money saver but I thought it was just another toy for bob to play with. But after I took this photo, it suddenly hit me what an achievement it really has been. [attachment=4998] That doesn’t include today’s 20 boards or any of the fence posts. If you want to know how much money we saved you can do some maths We’ve milled 575 boards 6”x 1” 4m long Mill & getting it running ( because it hadn’t run for at least 10 years when we brought it ) £2000 Here’s a link to some cladding if you wanted to buy some. ( not the cheapest site, but not the most expensive either) https://www.ruby-group.co.uk/products/larch-cladding-150mm-x-22mm?variant=13829505974335 RE: The build - Veggie - 03-07-2022 On the back of an envelope, literally, I make it £2850 for 150 boards and you've milled more than 3 times that amount. You'd also have to add an arm and a leg for delivery. Excellent investment and, now that you have the mill, you could mill for others, maybe? First one will be for the local estate we got the wood off for our house. We’ve got another big pile of logs to turn into fence post for them. RE: The build - Veggie - 03-07-2022 Ideal arrangement all round. |
