RE: What's flying near you? - Mark_Riga - 19-12-2021 While out walking in the mist this afternoon, about 100 lapwings took off from a field. At first I thought they were pigeons but then I realised that in flight they were nothing like and the noise was completely different, a bit like a low rumble. RE: What's flying near you? - Veggie - 20-12-2021 The fatball feeders are magnets for the long tailed tits at the moment. I watched a little bluetit trying to push his way through their tails to get to the food but he couldn't. The long tails seemed to be arranged like a palisade to keep out intruders. Seen a few yellow wagtails wagging their way around the pond too and the jays are here hoovering up the acorns. RE: What's flying near you? - Bren - 21-12-2021 We've got couple of Greenfinches enjoying the Teasels. Edited to say it was Goldfinches but apparently my kindle didn't like that word. RE: What's flying near you? - JJB - 29-01-2022 Really pleased to see a little goldcrest having a bath in the waterfall yesterday, last time we saw one was 2017. Also saw a red kite soaring over the front fields this morning. I was momentarily very excited as greenfinch are red listed and in real danger across Europe Goldfinch are lovely, though! RE: What's flying near you? - Roitelet - 29-01-2022 We have had a Hawfinch visiting the feeder. Tried to get a pic but it is too timid and the slightest movement and away it flies RE: What's flying near you? - PyreneesPlot - 30-01-2022 Today's garden bird count - Wren 1 (+1 against 2021) Marsh tit 3 (=) Great tit 4 (+2) Blue tit 4 (-3) House Sparrow 5 (-1) Chaffinch 5 (+2) Blackbird 1 (=) Robin 1 (=) Cirl Bunting 3 (+3) |
