If you have the space, let them surprise you. If not be ruthless.

I grew two plants from the same packet of seed I had last year. Last year was such a misery for growing and the plants were stunted and the fruits (all two) were small and shaped more like an aubergine. I thought this was because of the poor weather. This year the plants are huge and vigorous and making loads of fruits - all the same shape as last year. I'm worried they're actually not trombas and can't tell what they might be. I'll post photos when I can get to the computer.

Edited to add photos of the plant and a couple of the fruits (they've both got many fruits). The creamier green color is the more true to life.
Your leaves look rounder than JJBs which are pointy.

I'm worried that it's an unintentional cross. Squashes can be very unpalatable to essentially poisonous after a cross, can't they?

I'm so bummed to miss another year of throwing trombas. Gardening is full of mishaps.

I've got something growing that has self seeded which I'm going to let grow and see what, if anything, I get. Looks like a winter squash of sorts so will be a while to harvest. Yours looks quite like a courgette. You could try it now, could have a rock hard skin when mature. I once had a longish orangish squash that self seeded, probably a cross between uchiki kuri and something that was very nice. I think they taste bitter if they are likely to be a problem.

Sorry I’m late to the tromb, not tromb discussion.
Afraid to say that’s not a tromb. It is a confusing beast. The leaves look very pumpkin like. The fruit very courgette like? Definitely don’t rip it out! It’s still producing an edible crop.

This is my tromb from a couple of years ago

I feel your pain of not growing them. I’ve not grown them this year again and I’m really missing them.
