RE: The build - Small chilli - 15-04-2022 (15-04-2022, 05:27 PM)JJB Wrote: Impressive SC, when you said you'd bought a sawmill, that wasn't what came to my mind. I can understand your enthusiasm, a step forward for self sufficiency. How do you know how much cladding you need and whether you have enough wood?I hate to use bad language but it’s………………..mathematics . you work out your surface area. Then you can work out how many boards you need. Because you already know how wide they are and how much of an overlap is needed. Then the tricky bit is working out how many boards you’ll get out of a log. You can have a fairly good guesstimate. All perfectly simple . we got 22 boards at 4m long out of our first log. RE: The build - Admin - 15-04-2022 Proper homesteader now SC RE: The build - Veggie - 15-04-2022 Brilliant, SC. Must be so satisfying. Do the logs or boards need to be seasoned before using them for cladding? RE: The build - Small chilli - 15-04-2022 Think the plan is to treat them once up. He did say what with, but I wasn’t listening RE: The build - SarrissUK - 15-04-2022 (15-04-2022, 05:17 PM)Small chilli Wrote: I’ve just cut my very first larch plank. . How cool is that! Well done and congratulations! I love firsts like that RE: The build - Bren - 16-04-2022 Congrats SC it must be very satisfying, me I've sat for hours watching them mill at the woodland festival. RE: The build - Small chilli - 21-04-2022 Spent yesterday afternoon moving timber. Spent today milling it and stacking it onto the trailer. It’s now getting stacked on site. [attachment=4674] [attachment=4675] |
