Yes, Knotty, all FREE. Big Grin There's an app called OLIO - they've teamed up with various shops and local volunteers go to them at the end of the day to collect leftover food. The volunteers then offer it on OLIO to anyone who wants to collect it. I don't use it now because they've taken down the web app and upgraded the phone app. My phone is too old to handle the upgrade and I'm too old to care!
However, the Sourdough bread collector messages me every week to ask if I want anything which is very kind.
I'm also in a FB Recycle group that covers my postcode area and a lot of surplus food is offered on that. For example, this morning I've collected 5 tins of beans, soup, rice pudding and fruit from one person, 5 boxes of herb teas, 2 bags of dhal and a bag of green lentils plus curry spices.
Anything I don't want, that is in date, I'll take to one of the local churches that has a free food market every month. That eases my conscience about taking things (usually fresh produce & bread) that would otherwise be wasted.
If you have a free weekend, have a look at my Moneyless Chicken thread https://gardenandgossip.org/showthread.php?tid=1388&highlight=Moneyless where I decided to spend as little as possible on food, clothing, toiletries, books etc and spend no more than £1 a day on food. Its surprisingly easy Big Grin

Went to Church this morning - I was the last one to attend so not much left except lettuce, carrots and bread. They'd had a big donation of tinned food but I leave that for others. They were telling me that the doors open at 10.30 but people are queuing outside at 8.45, just so that they can have first dibs on whatever is there.
This afternoon, I collected a 3 year old Nectarine that had been in a pot - now bare-rooted! Not sure where it'll be planted at the moment but I'm sure I'll find somewhere to squeeze it in.
