I just love that rattle at the end of the song - we call them the bag of bones bird!! RE: What's flying near you? - Eyren - 07-04-2021 The freezing temperatures last night made for hungry birds today - my "pet" robin fed from my hand twice today Usually he waits for the mealworms to wriggle out of my hand so he can fly down and pick them up, but today he was just too impatient! RE: What's flying near you? - Mark_Riga - 12-04-2021 First swallow seen this morning returning Southern Africa. RE: What's flying near you? - Mark_Riga - 12-04-2021 Also heard lapwings this morning behind the house. May be they will stick around and nest there. RE: What's flying near you? - Eyren - 14-04-2021 My "pet" robin is getting increasingly bold! He let me take his photo today while he waited for his morning mealworms: [attachment=2676] He now regularly takes them from my hand, provided no-one else is around RE: What's flying near you? - Can the Man - 14-04-2021 (12-04-2021, 10:19 AM)PyreneesPlot Wrote: There's a wren making a nest in old broken walking boot that I tied to the pergola Everybody ignored the boots last spring!I seen your photo of the boot nest on Instagram PP, looks lovely RE: What's flying near you? - PyreneesPlot - 14-04-2021 No sign of the wren today Apparently the male makes several nests and the female selects the best. Perhaps she didn't fancy spending so much time where MrPP's feet had previously been!! RE: What's flying near you? - Eyren - 20-04-2021 Our resident robins appear to have fledged their first chicks - I spotted one in the pyracantha this morning, while feeding their dad! RE: What's flying near you? - Mark_Riga - 25-04-2021 2 goldfinch feeding off our new niger seed bird feeder. Also, our solo swallow has been singing his heart out on the electricity wires and has at last been rewarded with a mate. |
