RE: Cut Flowers - Small chilli - 08-07-2021

I’ve just discovered alstroemeria can grow on Mull. There were lots of them in the garden I visited last weekend. I want some of them. After some research they grow best from being split / root cuttings. They can be very hit & miss from seed and don’t work from stem cuttings.

I like the plonked in a vase look - I'm just for the flowers!I don't like the over arranged look. I've been toying with trying Alstromerias! I may have to give them a go.

^^^ Ah well, that's me out, I don't know anyone with some. I could buy a plant of course..........nah, don't be daft, that costs money, but then again I haven't spent my competition prize yet.Smile

I can aim to shove some seeds in the swap of this one, doubt the new ones will flower this year. Anyone had any success with Alstromeria seed?

Found this, the author tried several methods and this was the best.

Sowing time is from mid winter to mid spring.
Fill 3in (8cm) pots with a moist, soil-less potting compost.
Sow about three seeds ¼in (5mm) deep in each.
Wrap the pots in polythene to retain moisture.
Place sowings in a temperature of 70F(21C).
After three weeks move to the main compartment of a refrigerator, which will be at about 40F (5C), for three weeks.
Return to warmth at approximately 70F (21C).
Germination will commence in a further 10 to 14 days.

ignore that it's on T&M, we don't like them Smile

You can get a bit carried away with this cut flower lark.
