RE: No 3 - I Spy Wildlife in the garden - PyreneesPlot - 02-11-2020 I spy dragonflies hurtling around the pond and meadow in the sunshine. RE: No 3 - I Spy Wildlife in the garden - Bren - 03-11-2020 I spy in my garden earthworms lots of them RE: No 3 - I Spy Wildlife in the garden - Veggie - 03-11-2020 My E is for Earwigs, such a strange name! As a kid, I imagined them sitting on top of people's ears to keep them warm................. ...............and I still do. EDIT Earwig origins:- Apparently, people believed that if you slept on the ground, earwigs would climb into your ears and tunnel into your brain, sending you insane. Maybe, that's how it happened. RE: No 3 - I Spy Wildlife in the garden - Bren - 03-11-2020 When i think of earwigs I remember walking to school with bunches of dahlias and always having them crawling on my hands. RE: No 3 - I Spy Wildlife in the garden - Veggie - 03-11-2020 Similar memory here Bren! Finding some nasturtiums growing wild, where someone must have dumped some garden waste, and bringing a bunch of flowers home for Mum. I proudly gave them to her, just as the earwigs were emerging. Don't think she was too impressed. RE: No 3 - I Spy Wildlife in the garden - PyreneesPlot - 03-11-2020 I spy earthworms, I would like to spy more elephant hawk moths (seen 2 in 10 years). RE: No 3 - I Spy Wildlife in the garden - Spec - 03-11-2020 My E is also earthworms, for which I am thankful to see, especially after finding two flatworms yesterday (03-11-2020, 09:42 AM)Veggie Wrote: My E is for Earwigs, such a strange name!So I take it you are still sleeping on the ground then Veggie I suppose that shows the truth of the old saying.
