Another permanent garden structure was put in place today. Another thing I’ve been collecting bits of it for years.

The 2 side bars are in the ground 50cm, the back one is in 1m. The wheels are bolted together. Hopefully it should stay upright when it’s covered in sweet peas.

Re drawn the veg garden plan. Hopefully this will work better. Definitely got more growing space in it.
Measurements aren’t quite right on paper. But it’s pretty close. Definitely good enough to refer back to.
Bed width varies from 1.1m to 2.4m. Bed lengths vary from 2.4m to 4m .

I mocked up some raised bed sides. To see if a wheelbarrow would turn corners when full.

The beds with narrower paths. If I can’t corner with a full wheelbarrow. I can get to the end of the beds. Then corner when Barrow has a little less in it.
Doing the plan this way I get 3 extra beds in. And 11 of them are bigger than my first plan. To be fair I have extended my garden slightly as well since doing the last plan.

That's getting really exciting. A load of work getting the beds prepared but won't it be magnificent when it's done.

The rhubarb patch

Filling new tyres ( 150cm in diameter, if you’re not sure how big they look in the photos) [attachment=8074]
Rhubarb split into 9 and placed ready for planting. [attachment=8075]
Old tyre emptied, moved, weed fabric put down, tyre put back and filled with fresh. Planted up with a rescue rhubarb (been living in 3” of soil in the bottom of a fish box for at least 2 years.).
Put windbreak around all tyres.

They will be even more protected when the big tunnel gets moved.
No rhubarb this year. But next year I should have quite the harvest. Hopefully.
It’s been quite a lot of work. With levelling the ground, getting the tyres, getting the 6 buckets of gravel for the drainage in the base and the countless number of wheelbarrow loads of top soil/ manure mix (all pushed up hill). I’m probably a bit late in splitting the rhubarb, but it’s needed doing for the last 5 years. I wasn’t going to put it off again.

I feel tired just reading about all the work you've done to set this up. Your plants look more advanced than my rhubarb - so you may be able to pick some this year. I meant to split mine - but forgot.

You'll have more rhubarb than you know what to do with. I see loads of your favourite rhubarb cake on the horizon.
