The long tailed tits have been flying up to the top of the patio doors and pecking something that's living there. Not sure what it is but it looks cobwebby.
Its quite entertaining watching them hovering against the glass - seeing their undersides for a change.
Apparently the birds collect spiders web and cocoons for their nest material. This article is fascinating. So much I didn't know about long tailed tits.

Brilliant article. We had a long tail nest one year in the cotoneaster archway leading to the top garden. Not an ideal spot as we couldn't avoid it.

Just across the road in the common grazing area/ bog. I can hear a grasshopper warbler. Still not spotted the little fella yet.

The May bugs/Cockchafers are back, flying into the windows and clattering to the ground. Spud has just eaten one - they sound like popcorn when he crunches one! Yuk !!

A Jay alighted on the roof of the bird table this morning much to the disgust of a blackbird, alarming for all he was worth. Not seen a Jay for years.

Pesky Wood pigeons are building a nest in the bay tree, just outside the door to GH2. They're driving the dogs mad with their flapping and cooing and not doing much for me either! I can see the nest, a collection of twigs, the scruffiest nest I've ever seen. The pigeons crash land on the GH roof, with a bit of twig in their beak, then clatter their way into the centre of the bush. They show no sign of fear of me or the dogs. I'm really torn between trying to persuade them to pack their bags and go find another nesting site, after all there are hundreds of trees locally, or put up with it and let them get on with it. I've already seen them eating the redcurrants, and that's just 2 of them. Just think how much a whole family of pigeons will eat.

Feral pigeons are a pain this year here. I've had to net chard and lettuces and they've even got at the flowers, none of which have never been their targets before. This morning I found antirrhinum and marigolds disbudded and masses of gloopy pigeon poo all over the steps. They used to shoot the things!
