For once, I am able to say "Boss, you were WRONG. " RE: Puzzle a Day! - JJB - 12-10-2021 Here's one Jane covered the top two words on a piece of paper with her hand before showing the paper to Ben. The following eight words below Jane’s hand were visible: THIRD FOURTH FIFTH SIXTH SEVENTH EIGHTH NINTH TENTH Jane explained that the entire ten word list followed a logical sequence. She gave Ben one guess to determine the first two words on the list that her hand covered. Ben guessed the words, “FIRST” and “SECOND”. Ben was wrong. What were the first two words on Jane's list? RE: Puzzle a Day! - Proserpina - 12-10-2021 Hmm, might be a few approaches to this. Might have to think long and hard before putting one over the other. And the search for the answer might divide the forum. RE: Puzzle a Day! - JJB - 13-10-2021 As usual I think Pros has got it. Any other takers. RE: Puzzle a Day! - Veggie - 13-10-2021 Not a clue!! RE: Puzzle a Day! - JJB - 13-10-2021 Answer: “WHOLE” and “HALF”. Put the word ONE in front. The words on the list represent the inverse fractions of the counting numbers: (this is the official answer, not sure what inverse fractions have to do with it) 1/1= WHOLE 1/2= HALF 1/3= THIRD 1/4= FOURTH 1/5= FIFTH 1/6= SIXTH 1/7= SEVENTH 1/8= EIGHTH 1/9= NINTH 1/10= TENTH RE: Puzzle a Day! - Veggie - 13-10-2021 Very good, Pros, for solving that one!! Last night, we were watching "Alice in Boarderland" - a Japanese TV series, dubbed into English, with puzzles to solve in each episode - if you fail, you die!!! There was a group of contestants in a tank, which was filling with water. The exit door could only be opened once - and there were 3 switches that controlled lights in the room beyond the door. Sound familiar? It was the only one I've solved!! Fortunately, our G&G rules are a bit softer than theirs. |
