RE: The garden from scratch - Small chilli - 31-08-2023 Also re potted up the planter the bulbs came out of. [attachment=6988] Planted up with BLACK PANSY THYME (is planted at the back behind the lid ) AFRICAN DAISY OSTEOSPERMUM DIANTHUS RED NARCISSUS BRIDAL CROWN Not sure where it’s going to live yet. RE: The garden from scratch - Small chilli - 01-09-2023 Did lots in the garden today. Started pegging out where tunnels will be. Because I need to know where my rhubarb tractor tyres will be going. As that’ll be getting moved from the other garden soon(ish). That has to be placed in exactly the right spot because I’m not moving that more than we need to. Also decided to widen the lower end of the veg garden from 10m to 11.85m. Not sure how much more space that will give. But it all helps and it’ll look better. Also started digging bed 4. But most of the day was spent splitting rocks to edge my cottage garden beds. Started with this drill [attachment=6995] Then went to the big one [attachment=6996] [attachment=6997] There was a bit of fighting over who was going to do the exciting bit. [attachment=6998] This one spilt perfectly. Lots didn’t. All still useable. [attachment=6999] RE: The garden from scratch - JJB - 02-09-2023 Impressive! I like the exciting bit, the hard work to get there less so. RE: The garden from scratch - Small chilli - 06-09-2023 Bed 4 looks something like this [attachment=7018] [attachment=7019] Still need to mulch with wood chips. Then it’s done. [attachment=7020] RE: The garden from scratch - Small chilli - 08-09-2023 New drill bits have arrived. So I’ve been splitting rocks. My first ever rock without supervision [attachment=7025] [attachment=7026] It’s very satisfying when they split exactly where you want them. RE: The garden from scratch - JJB - 08-09-2023 Oooh, how cool. Do they make a noise when they split? RE: The garden from scratch - Small chilli - 08-09-2023 Yeah it’s really cool. Some you can just hear them starting to split and some go with a pop. RE: The garden from scratch - Vinny - 08-09-2023 (08-09-2023, 07:05 PM)Small chilli Wrote: Yeah it’s really cool. I usually just wack them with a mash hammer and a bolster chisel along a line I would like them to split, and sometimes they do, and more often they don't! RE: The garden from scratch - Bob - 08-09-2023 Here's a video of Bert swinging the hammer the other day when we were splitting some https://drive.google.com/file/d/11DqFTzmoQwAB7vdx0DhdbicmbpzStn3x/view?usp=drivesdk RE: The garden from scratch - Small chilli - 09-09-2023 ^^^ you have to turn the volume up quite a bit to get the singing over the hammer strikes. Unfortunately the video doesn’t really do it justice. The performance is much better live . |
