RE: Building a Hugelkultur Bed - Veggie - 23-06-2022 This is a totally NOT a Hugelkultur suggestion, just an idea. If you laid the wood down in rows and filled the gaps between the rows with whatever compost/soil is available, you could plant into those rows, whilst the wood is rotting down. I use branches and logs to edge beds and they don't last very long. If they were buried and kept damp, they'd rot down much faster. Its a sort of No-dig, Hugelkultur. RE: Building a Hugelkultur Bed - PyreneesPlot - 24-06-2022 That sounds like a good idea and a lot less work! RE: Building a Hugelkultur Bed - Veggie - 24-06-2022 Wow!!! I'm going to frame that and hang it on my wall. "Veggie had a good idea.............once". RE: Building a Hugelkultur Bed - Jimny14 - 24-06-2022 Thanks for the insight PP. I think I may loosely follow the hugel kultur principles as I have wood, manure, compost in various stages of degradation, leaf mould grass sods from the bed area available to build up these beds. |
