RE: Wild/Perennial/Babington leeks - Veggie - 17-01-2021 They won't be the size of an annual leek by next year. If that's what you want to do, grow annual ones.. The Duck found this https://living-mudflower.blogspot.com/2017/12/perennial-leek-vs-regular-leek.html I grow Babington leeks with bulbils on top. RE: Wild/Perennial/Babington leeks - Spec - 18-01-2021 With perennial leeks I would no longer need to sow any seeds, plus as OH doesn't use leeks a lot it would save me space most of the leeks I grow go to my family or neighbours, also I like the idea of leeks with a garlicky taste RE: Wild/Perennial/Babington leeks - Broadway - 18-01-2021 (17-01-2021, 09:36 PM)Veggie Wrote: They won't be the size of an annual leek by next year. If that's what you want to do, grow annual ones..Thanks for the link Veggie RE: Wild/Perennial/Babington leeks - Spec - 18-01-2021 That link that you added Veggie shows that perennial leeks would be the perfect answer for me RE: Wild/Perennial/Babington leeks - Vinny - 18-01-2021 I have never grown the perennial leeks. I would wonder whether perennial leeks are susceptible to white rot? I have the same feelings about perennial brassicas being susceptible to clubroot? Having said that, leek growers in my area grow leeks in the same trench every year, albeit the soil is thrown out and beefed up each year. I might give them a try just to add another string to my bow. RE: Wild/Perennial/Babington leeks - Mamzie - 18-01-2021 hmm, thats another type of perennial leek again? I hadn't heard of the one growing from the base before x RE: Wild/Perennial/Babington leeks - Veggie - 18-01-2021 This is the one I grow and that I have sent you Bulbils of............. https://backyardlarder.co.uk/babingtons-leek/ RE: Wild/Perennial/Babington leeks - Mamzie - 19-01-2021 That is a fabulous article on them thanks Veggie. Amazing how they can actually plant themselves with those special roots - I wonder if the root on strawberry runners is the same? x RE: Wild/Perennial/Babington leeks - Spec - 19-01-2021 I have been looking for perennial leeks and have come across 2 types the first is Babington leek the second is Poireau Perpetuel has anyone grown both and if so is there any difference, also in one site they are sold out of bulbs but have 1lt,availiable can anyone tell me, will this be a plant in a 1lt pot RE: Wild/Perennial/Babington leeks - Veggie - 19-01-2021 Have a look at this site - they stock both the leeks https://www.incrediblevegetables.co.uk/product-category/all-products/bulbs-bulbils/ |
