I will do as Ive done on the main growing areas and cover with weed by membrane and plant through it. Weeding the whole area along with cutting the flowers takes too long on my own. So ive added another 5X20ft rows... hardly seedlings are already growing in the greenhouse.
You are soooooooo organised Scarlet! Smile

I'm not really Big Grin but I have got better at only growing what I have room for. I used to grow tons of stuff, spending time keeping it alive and not a clue of where I was going to put it. I have worked out how many plants will fit in each bed and that has helped - I still over buy - Ive got some more Chrysanthemums ordered. I would really love to get a row of those growing. Didnt have much luck last year.

2025 plans & hopes - Small chilli - 26-02-2025

We’re a bit late with this thread this year. Unless I just can’t find it ( more than possible). We should have a fairly good idea what we want to do in the garden this year by now.
So please share your plans & hopes .

Mine is pretty much a continuation of last year.
More cottage garden beds in place.
Drainage in the veg garden.
More beds in the veg garden.
Another Polytunnel up.

Doesn’t sound that difficult written like that, does it.

What I have realised today. It hit me fairly hard. I’m really disliking the process of creating the veg garden. The planning stages have been fun. It’s the actual turning it into a usable garden isn’t really doing it for me. I think it’s because it’s taking such a long time. When what I really want to do and really really miss is the actual growing of the veggies.
Creating the cottage garden however is a very enjoyable experience. I’m loving it. From the planning (scribbling on many many bits of paper) , to the making out the shapes & sizes of the beds, to the digging out the turf (rushes) , to the rock splitting (really love doing this) and manhandling them into place, to the repeated barrow loads of soil & manure to fill them, finally to the planting. The whole process is wonderfully exciting, satisfying & energising. The veg garden however, I just want it done yesterday but properly.

I found a thread that JJB started last August,(just to confuse us) that got carried over into this year https://gardenandgossip.org/showthread.php?tid=2210

I’ll try to merge them tomorrow, when I’m more awake. I didn’t look in general discussion either.

Looking back at the post I did earlier in the year. I can tick split rhubarb off my list.
Really hoping I can tick lots of other things off bother my (very similar) lists this year.

RE: Plans for next year 2024/25 - JJB - 27-02-2025

Most of my thoughts in August still stand. The attitude of 'less is more' is still there. I fear that as tomato, courgette and bean sowing time approaches my resolve will weaken. I keep telling myself that if I sow less in early spring there will be space remaining for a second sowing late May/early June. I've started thinking about tomatoes, instead of six per gh border, I'll reduce it to four, and perhaps dedicate proper space for cucumbers rather than just fitting them inbetween toms. Outdoor toms are usually those leftover from gh, hopefully with restraint these will reduce too. I hope to restrict myself to just a few varieties of beans. It's worth a try at least.

I hear you, SC! The building of it all is a bit overwhelming and feels so drawn out. I prefer the planning and the actual growing too.
