RE: Freecycle and similar websites - Veggie - 25-01-2022 IN - a huge "leather" beanbag for the dogs as one of theirs has come apart at the seams and is too difficult to restitch. Its not leaking pellets yet but I have nightmares about finding a "snowstorm" in the kitchen. I'll see if anyone wants it to top up their filling. IN - an IKEA wooden storage box made in a lattice design. Its been painted white but my plan is to line it with a blue IKEA bag and use it as a garden planter. OUT - offered a swivel desk chair and a ?"Marilyn" chair (bent wooden ply in a cello shape with metal legs that stick out and always trip me up. RE: Freecycle and similar websites - Veggie - 26-01-2022 IN came more books OUT went the old beanbag. No interest to date in the 2 chairs. RE: Freecycle and similar websites - Can the Man - 27-01-2022 I love reading your adventures Veggie of what you get what you use, share and re offer again. It’s fascinating, by the way if you ever come across a concertina or a bag pipe please let me know. Thanks RE: Freecycle and similar websites - Veggie - 27-01-2022 Thanks Can! I've seen a ukulele, clarinet, violin, lots of pianos, drum kit, guitar but never a concertina or bag pipes, sorry. Freebie collection is like going on a treasure hunt. You're given a postcode and a house number and instructions about where the freebie will be hidden. Often its "in the porch" but I've collected from "Behind the skip in an orange bag"; "in the wheelie bin", "under the front of the car", "behind or under the plant pot", "behind the front wall", "under/on the bench" and so on. When you reach the spot, often there are several bags, each labelled with the name of the collector. Sometimes, you have to ring the bell and meet the donor. I've met some truly nice people in the last few months; the sort of people who contact you and ask if you want something before they offer it publicly - yesterday it was some dog chews. Or, they offer you something extra when you arrive - and I rarely say No. . Enough chat, I have 2 collections to make so must get ready. See you later with a few surprising items. RE: Freecycle and similar websites - Veggie - 27-01-2022 Wonder if you can guess what today's surprising items are?? Probably not, so I'll tell you............. Pickup No. 1 A tube of No Nonsense Mortar Repair Cement (to repair the seal around the base of the GH) 2 IKEA toilet brushes (unused) 2 extra long rolls of toilet paper (the sort you get in dispensers in public loos) (also unused ) No. 2 6 Iain Banks books (already had 1 so that will be regifted) + some unexpected books, 5 x Spike Milligan, a Bill Bryson and a couple of other ones. Most of these will be passed on - probably to Morries charity book stall. No more collections or disposals planned for today. RE: Freecycle and similar websites - Veggie - 28-01-2022 IN - another Fire Guard (that's the 3rd one). Soon I'm going to join them all together and see how much garden they'll protect. Its raining now so it won't be today!! Also IN an "Evian Affinity Beauty Bag" containing Cleansing Gel, Toner and Moisturiser. I thought Evian was bottled water, not gloopy stuff. OUT is a big one. A VHS Video recorder/player that I've been hanging on to for many years. My husband used to take his video camera on holiday and record our travels. I've been hanging on to the tapes, not wanting to part with them but, also, not wanting to play them because of the memories and, in particular, hearing his voice again after 17 years. Somebody in the Freebie group asked for a player to review her own family videos. before having the best copied to DVD. I'm not going to do that because I still wouldn't want to hear them - so the player has gone and the tapes will follow soon. Feeling strong. Also OUT - 3 empty Ferrero Rocher boxes that I've used to store seed packets - but I have a new storage place now and the boxes are the wrong size. RE: Freecycle and similar websites - Veggie - 30-01-2022 Had a Freebie Free day yesterday! Today I collected a cast iron and bristle Hedgehog boot scraper - its for human boots, not hedgehog boots. The Hedgehog stands at the back of the bristles, keeping watch. The stand had a broken leg, when delivered and the seller didn't want it back. Hoping that Araldite will glue the leg back, otherwise Hedgehog will be Hopping. RE: Freecycle and similar websites - Veggie - 01-02-2022 ' Arald the 'edgehog 'as 'ad 'is leg 'Araldited and 'e 'is not 'opping now. Yesterday I collected a wax melt burner from down the road, today I've put in a request for a load of tealights. Also collected a small 4 drawer metal filing cabinet that is going to store seeds. Need to shuffle the furniture around in the "seed and book library first". Plus some trays of dog food and a bag of Sardine Training treats - they're whiffy! RE: Freecycle and similar websites - Veggie - 01-02-2022 Just had an unexpected OUT of a kettle, toaster and 4 mugs for someone who was in need of such things having moved into a new property in a rush, with nothing. They've just been collected. RE: Freecycle and similar websites - Veggie - 02-02-2022 IN came a bag of tealights for the oil burner, a new kitchen swing top bin, a bag of random clothes (some I'll keep, the rest will find it way to the Firefighters Charity Bin) and another boot scraper (new. still in box with tag) https://www.dibor.co.uk/garden/boot-brushes-shoe-scrapers/cast-iron-boot-scraper-and-boot-brush.html Bootscrapers are like buses - wait for years and two come along within days. |
