RE: 2023 - Pumpkin competition - doublyjonah - 09-10-2023 A superb specimen! RE: 2023 - Pumpkin competition - JJB - 11-10-2023 Piglet ap Peg has been weighed with the luggage scales, he is only a baby at 7.7kg, 16.9 lbs. Roll on next year. He's not as perfectly spherical as River. A pic to follow if I remember. RE: 2023 - Pumpkin competition - Broadway - 11-10-2023 Harvested the big one yesterday, only 68cm diameter but still the biggest I've ever grown. Also picked a smaller one last week plus an unripe one, will it rippen? RE: 2023 - Pumpkin competition - Veggie - 11-10-2023 Well done Danny. Yours is exactly 68cms bigger than mine! RE: 2023 - Pumpkin competition - Small chilli - 21-10-2023 My book on growing giant pumpkins has arrived . At a quick glance I’ve learned some stuff already. Very excited about next year’s competition . At the grand total of £3.74 (£2.75 delivery). It’s very good. Even more pleased I didn’t buy the first copy I saw at £75 !!! That’s very nearly £1 a page . Especially as all the photos are black & white and there’s not many of them. I like photos . Anyone started eating their pumpkin yet? I keep putting it off RE: 2023 - Pumpkin competition - JJB - 22-10-2023 (21-10-2023, 06:49 PM)Small chilli Wrote: My book on growing giant pumpkins has arrived . I keep forgetting about it (it's stored in the gh) it's a bit big to bring indoors. I must remember to take it and the trombas to the garage before the frosts set in. RE: 2023 - Pumpkin competition - Vinny - 22-10-2023 I went to harvest my only pumpkin (not in the competition) and on lifting it the bottom half had basically been eaten away with slugs and snails! RE: 2023 - Pumpkin competition - Veggie - 22-10-2023 You wouldn't have eaten it anyway as its not animal - although maybe the slugs and snails would be OK. Even Hugh Fearnley Eatsitall turned his nose up at those! My Grandson entered a pumpkin carving competition (not with my half eaten jobbie) and carved an 'engine management light' into the pumpkin, which can be a horrifying sight!
