RE: The build - Small chilli - 17-02-2026

Today some colour schemes have been decided, some have been scrapped. More colour choices have been made. Working out coverage at the moment. Bob finished polishing the bathroom work top. It looks really good. Our plasterer has be AWAL again today. But we found out he will be here 8.30 Thursday morning.

First room is plastered [attachment=8687] . He will be back next week sometime to do another room.
Apparently he said it’s one of the best prepared houses he’s ever worked in. So that was good to hear.

I used to wonder why tradesmen needed to serve a four year apprenticeship to be a plasterer................until I tried it for myself! Big Grin

RE: The build - Small chilli - 23-02-2026

Yesterday we moved everything stored in the spare room to our newly plastered bedroom. Today I laid the cardboard flooring. That’s this week’s room to be plastered. Our paint arrived today and so did our plug sockets and some of our light switches.
Still need to order our Quinetic light switches.

I watched the Guy Martin zero energy house last night. Thanks to your build commentary I even understood some of it (MVHR etc). They had nothing good to say about building developers and new build houses.

Went to Oban to get a kitchen plan done and also discussed fitted wardrobe for both bedrooms, all the interior doors and a set of sliding doors for the drying cupboard in the porch.
Should have a plan though in a couple of days.

There's a guy who films himself doing the snagging on new builds. Some of the work quality is appalling. https://www.youtube.com/@newhomequalitycontrol/videos

This is his developer tier list from 2024.

Just watched that link. I do like a good giggle on a wet Thursday morning. Watched a few of his snagging videos. It’s really quite terrifying what some of these so called professional traders people think they’re allowed to get away with. But that video is proof of the very close second reason why we’re doing it our selves and very choosy about those trades we do have to use. The first reason is because we couldn’t afford to pay cowboys to build our house.

Spare bedroom plastered. [attachment=8706] And porch started [attachment=8707] . He’s coming back tomorrow.
Very very exciting

Hallway and most of the bathroom done today. Unfortunately we won’t see plasterer again until week after next.
