RE: 2022 - What I did today - PyreneesPlot - 15-08-2022 Potted on some goji cuttings, replanted lettuces up ended by a mole, cut back the brambles on one hedge, replanted the lettuces again, planted yet more kale, replanted the lettuces yet again and tried to fork out the tunnels, bottled comfrey tea. RE: 2022 - What I did today - PyreneesPlot - 17-08-2022 Took advantage of the cooler weather to turn the compost heaps. The one we've been filling for the last six weeks was almost completely dry all the way to the bottom. Never had that before! I usually put the veg washing water in the compost bucket but have been saving it for watering the garden which probably explains it. Replanted those lettuces twice more; there's a very active mole in there. RE: 2022 - What I did today - Mark_Riga - 17-08-2022 Well I've done a bit with onions this week. Saturday pulled maincrop up and left in heat to dry then hung them up to store on Tuesday. Today, I sowed onions for Autumn planting, Shensyu Yellow. There were so many seeds in the packet, I sowed twice what I first thought of. The second thought was that I could use some early on as spring onions. I got them eventually from Mole seeds (£1.95 for 5g.) as I was ordering other stuff but they were cheaper from seeds direct. I usually plant sets but seeds should work out a lot cheaper - as long as they survive the winter - and I survive this winter. Hopefully they will be planted out late October/early November when allium leaf miner should be finished. My broadbean crop was not too bad this year. Just about 1kg from a 12' row. It's a bit hit and miss with having bees that help themselves to the nectar without bothering to pollinate the flowers. In the Greenhouse, I'm fighting a loosing battle against spider mite, leaf mould and voles + some moles as well now but still harvesting a reasonable amount of tomatoes and aubergines as well this year also the odd cucumber. I picked a big bowl of damsons today from the hedgerow. They are quite big, more like a small plum but don't know how long they will keep on fruiting now as I noticed some with 'Plum Pocket Disease' this spring. I put some courgettes in a box by the gate for people to help themselves. When the bin men had been, they were all gone. RE: 2022 - What I did today - Vinny - 17-08-2022 Went trout fishing with youngest Son. Both of us caught a rainbow trout each and had loads more takes.. Weather was good and the trout were biting! Thanks for the hint Mark, I have cleared my onions (a little late, a day after the rain) they're drying out in the shed. I might follow your lead and sow some odd autumn onion seeds RE: 2022 - What I did today - Mark_Riga - 18-08-2022 So far today I've put away a long hosepipe I used to water some apple trees and figs just the once but thought it might be needed again. We've not had much rain but I think they are over the worst now and in no danger of not surviving. RE: 2022 - What I did today - Veggie - 18-08-2022 Potted up some cuttings and repotted some herbs into bigger pots - the start of my Herb Tea Garden. It rained all afternoon so I did some pot sorting/tidying in GH3.
