Fifty Shades of Aquilegias - Veggie - 28-05-2025

Show us your Aquilegias please. They come in many shades and shapes and all are, in my opinion,  worthy flowers to have in the garden.

I love Aquilegias, I let them do their thing wherever they want.

Here's a few.

Martin, it was your yellow ones in the pond photo that inspired this thread. Thank you.
We have 21 shades of aquilegia so far!

I'm a aquilegia novice. I've only the bog standard pink wild ones. I've even failed to sow the purple ones. Are all these lovely coloured ones from seed or bought in as plants, and if seed, what's the secret?

All mine (that are flowering at the moment) are from seed. The secret is nothing more than luck. I know exactly what you mean. I’ve had some epic fails and some success with sowing. Either way I never do anything different. But I have to keep trying because they are some of the most beautiful seeds. Tiny shiny black almost pyramid shaped.

If you want to know more about Aquilegia and lots of photos of different varieties, have a look at Carrie' Thomas's website http://www.touchwoodplants.co.uk/aquilegias.htm
I sometimes buy seeds from Carrie - usually a pot luck selection of all sorts of plants - there are always lots of aquilegias in it and I expect that many of my flowers will have been grown from these.
