Vetch seeds in sweet pea packet - Farendwoman - 21-06-2023 So sorry - I have searched and searched but can’t find the post. It was either Martin or JJB. Apologies to one of you! Anyway we both had some odd seedlings pop up in our sweet pea sowings that looked like vetch foliage. Not even from same supplier - mine was cheapo from Lidl (incidentally, they have been fabulous!!) Martin’s of JJB’s came from a “proper” seed merchant. I grew mine on in a three inch pot- didn’t bother to plant them out. Here they are …. Quite pretty and def not vetch! How did yours do Martin or JJB???? RE: Vetch seeds in sweet pea packet - MartinH - 21-06-2023 It wasn't me. I don't know what that plant is, but it's very decorative. I'd be saving seeds RE: Vetch seeds in sweet pea packet - Farendwoman - 21-06-2023 Thanks Martin. Must’ve been JJB then. I’ll plant them in the garden now that I know they’re not vetch and have a go at saving seed. Strange though that they should appear in sweet pea packets from different suppliers, isn’t it. RE: Vetch seeds in sweet pea packet - Veggie - 21-06-2023 There are purple vetch, several types, so it could still be a vetch. RE: Vetch seeds in sweet pea packet - JJB - 21-06-2023 T'was me and mine died through neglect, so they never made it to flowering. That'll teach me to not put a pot of anything growing above eye level, it just gets forgotten. RE: Vetch seeds in sweet pea packet - PyreneesPlot - 21-06-2023 It looks like a purple vetch we have in the wild bits of the garden, flowers are a bit bigger perhaps. RE: Vetch seeds in sweet pea packet - Farendwoman - 14-01-2024 A follow up to last year.... Looks like I've got even more vetch in my seed packets this year. The "normal" sweet peas are as I expect them to be, short and sturdy - but you can see that the suspected vetch is ramping away with very feathery leaves. RE: Vetch seeds in sweet pea packet - Scarlet - 14-01-2024 Nothing about the vetch.... but as a big sweet pea grower - do you always put that many in a pot? Di you separate later? RE: Vetch seeds in sweet pea packet - Farendwoman - 14-01-2024 Will be separating them very soon... Just three to a 9cm pot as recommended. I usually separate them as soon as they show signs of sprouting. All behind myself with everything at moment. RE: Vetch seeds in sweet pea packet - Scarlet - 14-01-2024 Ah ok - Ive been putting 5 in a 9cm but theiy take so much space/compost |
