Peony - JJB - 29-05-2021 When trying to give my Peony a bit of support I accidentally broke off a 'branch' at the base. Will this take as a cutting do you think? I know that I can give it a go but wondered if anyone had any knowledge to impart. RE: Peony - Veggie - 29-05-2021 Is it a leaf that's broken off? The Duck found this https://www.gardenguides.com/78179-start-peonies-cuttings.html RE: Peony - JJB - 29-05-2021 No not a leaf a definite branch from soil level with a nascent bud amongst the foliage but no 'eyes'. I've put it in water and will bung it in the soil to see what happens - as you do RE: Peony - Veggie - 29-05-2021 Plonk, Bung and Jab - all well known gardening terms to us "gardeners". RE: Peony - Mark_Riga - 29-05-2021 New peonies are quite easy from bits of root/tuber. I've found in the past when I've dug one up for any reason, if a root gets broken off, that it soon grows another plant, a bit like if you miss a potato. So if there is some root on it, it will likely be able to grow. RE: Peony - JJB - 30-05-2021 Unfortunately no root or bits of tuber, so I'm not too hopeful, but nothing ventured, etc. RE: Peony - Small chilli - 18-10-2021 How did your experiment go JJB? I’m hi jacking your peony thread . I thought keeping all questions about the same plant in the same place was a good idea. What do you think ? Anyway my peony question. My peony is in a large plant pot. Do you think I should move it to the tunnel for winter ? Or leave it out side? It’s on a table surrounded bye lots of other pots & is protected from one side by the polytunnel. Your thoughts please . RE: Peony - Moth - 18-10-2021 Peonies need winter cold in order to flower next year and in the ground they withstand any amount of winter frost, even though they like to be only a couple of cm below the surface. I'm not sure about in a pot up where you are though, SC. If you have room for it in the tunnel, I would bring it in, to be safe, if you have some really cold weather, i.e. if the soil in the pot is likely to freeze solid. RE: Peony - JJB - 18-10-2021 SC my Peony experiment failed miserably, not enough tuber I think. It went into water and rotted. Could be because I forgot about it In your case I would err on the side of caution and over winter in the poly, but as you know I'm no expert. RE: Peony - Small chilli - 15-07-2024 Another peony question. Can you grow them from seed? That sounds a bit daft saying it out loud. Just one of my plants has produced some seed pods [attachment=7743] |
