I received a text on my phone informing me that the UK-GOV had issued a payment of £284.76 as part of its promise to battle covid-19, with a Web site to visit to apply for it, as I am very wary of such gifts and messages, I thought I would ask on here if anyone else received this message
I can’t help , I don’t own a mobile phone so can’t get texts. But very wise to be wary. Hopefully someone on here can help.
I just googled UK- GOV scam. It looks like a scam.
Lots of scams like this going around, unfortunately. Just a ruse to get you to give them your bank details.
Sounds like a scam to me too. The government wouldn't text you out of the blue, they'd contact you by post instead, and there would be government website pages to visit giving you all the information you need. If you were to visit the website in the text, most likely it would ask you to hand over your bank details and other private information in order to receive the payment.

Thanks for the replies, I thought it was a scam as I don't give out my phone number, but never thought of using google
They are waisting their time asking for my bank details, slab number 6 in row X of patio No3 rather difficult to make a withdrawal from thereSmile
I have just received another scam this time its Lloyds to say I have successful scheduled a payment of £54.99
I tried contacting Lloyds without success but quite sure its a scam, if I had £54.99 the polis would be watching itBig Grin
Spec can you block these senders on your mobile ?, if so then I would recommend doing this.
I don't know if or how I could do that Can, after turning on, making a phone calls and sending text I'm lost
