Whenever a very old man I taught to use a smartphone tells me he'll check/has checked the caravan I can't help giggling. I have a vision in my head of him going outside to check an actual caravan when what he is referring to is the speech bubble that's the symbol for text messages. It has now got to the stage where I will tell him to check the caravan (while giggling) as in his brain it will never be anything else.

How about words that have lasted from when the children or grandchildren were little, or even further back. Our lad called tractors gaggai, who knows why, but its stuck, and there's always lellow lolly (yellow lorry) when truck spotting on the motorway

^^^he he, our greyhound has a nozzle (I think my daughter smushed muzzle and nose together and the word stuck)

once upon a time we had a grapehound, but that has faded now.

Words that I just randomly like plethora, procrastinate and cracknell!

I had to look up cracknell.  Definitely a word of the day.

We have birds that 'prune' their feathers,  preening never made it into the lad's vocab.  Maybe that's what Mrs scraggly neck bert is doing.

My brother always says amenone, and my Dad used to drive us all up the wall because he said pravilion instead of pavilion. And as he played bowls and also loved cricket, it was a word he used a lot!
