If I make a sponge cake I keep a bit of the batter back and cook in a shallow layer in a tin and then freeze to put into the base of a trifle in the future along with frozen fruit etc.

That's probably what we call Cawl.
Cawl is a Welsh soup, apparently known as "lobscows" in parts of North Wales so I guess that's SC's "lobbie" that she hates.

Lobscouse is also the start point name and recipe wise for scouse, the liverpudlian stew they are named after. I think lobscouse was a naval term for a kind of stew if I remember rightly.
