For all those avid fishermen/women out there.  What's this fish?
The grandson of my friend from the Netherlands caught it.  I have no knowledge of unfilleted fish, nor do I know what happened to it after the picture was taken.

I haven't a clue Veggie.  I'm relying on others, far more knowledgeable than I for a positive ID.
After doing a quick google it's certainly looks like a Sturgeon
I have gone back to my Dutch pal to ask. Are sturgeon common? Isn't that where a sort of caviar comes from. Beluga, is it?
Anyone else caught one, it looks awfully big!
I think if I saw that on the end of a line I'd be scaredSmileSmileSmile
Yep definitely sturgeon, they get bigger than that. An inland dive site i used to go to regularly had a couple (now a few more) in. They're bottom feeders.
I would also say sturgeon.

Apparently quite common in Germany and Holland
I think its the common/European sturgeon, which is a bit of a confusing name as it is far from common these days.
What wise G&Gs you all are. I asked my Dutch friend and it is indeed a sturgeon. The lad is attending a training college for fish management. His sturgeon was returned to the fishing pool after the photo shoot. You would think the daft thing would avoid hooks the number of times he's been caught, but no, he still lets the anglers catch him for the photographer.
