I have grown onions from seed this year and some of them have shot others from sets are ok I thought that onions from seed were less likely to shoot so what could have caused this
Stress of some sort during their short life?

It must get have been the very hot weather you guys had in the uk recently might have confused some of them, did the ground dry out ?
March and April was very stressful on plants prone to bolting, I watered daily during the hot weather and still some of my onions went to seed. Sometimes the urge to be a parent is just too great for them. Smile

Quite possible Can though that's a thing that is very rare in this area, but hopefully when I am faced with the same conditions next year I will cope with it better  Rolleyes
