i have never grown French beans before so a complete novice, I started off some beans a few weeks ago in modules and about 3 weeks ago transferred them into a raised bed in the holy tunnel, they are now about 3-4” tall.
Question- Do I need to put in any supports for them ?, string supports from wires or bamboo cans ?

Haha!! We can't always agree.
You probably won't need support unless you are growing to get dried beans, particularly in a polytunnel as sheltered from any wind.
I generally end up putting stakes at the 4 corners and at intervals of about 6 to 8 feet along the row (if 20' row would have stake at each end and 2 spaced between, each side of row) then wrap twine round probably about 9" to a foot high and droop some of the leaves and pods over it. But I only need to do this when I grow for drying the beans.
In my defence, I've been growing the same variety of DFBs in the GH and outdoors. The weight of the beans made the plants lean, which in turn, meant the beans were resting on the ground and some were nibbled.
I had to tie the main stems to short canes - 18" or so, to keep them upright.
I think it depends on the variety, I'm growing some tendercrop which are over a foot tall and need some sort of twiggy support but I'm also growing some yellow polka and Ferrari neither of which need support at all. So both SC and Veggie are right. Take a bow guys and retreat to your corners and wait for the bell.

I put a few twigs in the same time I plant the beans it keeps them of the ground and makes picking easier.
