Its a miserable day out so I thought I'd entertain myself by organising my tins of food into date order so that I use the oldest stuff first. I found a few surprising items that may appear on this week's menus. The oldest tin maybe older than some of our members.
I have 3 tins beside me - would anyone like to guess what they are and their Best Before Dates?
I found a tin of tomato soup & a tin of custard. I’ll have to check the dates but pretty sure one was BBF 94
I'm so pleased I'm not the only one!
Many tins and jars I have are well out of date.
A tin of black treacle was BBF 1980 something. My lad, who found it, has never let me live it down.
Conversely the lady nextdoor would throw stuff away the day before the BBF date.
As for Veggies tins/jars a tin of sardines, Baked beans and veg soup. BBF 2013 1990 2001
I haven't looked at the jars yet! I know there are some ancient pickled objects that look like something you'd find in a laboratory (that's B not V).

Quite fresh really.
You disappoint me veggie
. You must try harder. They’re not very old
.
I'm sorry to have let you down in this way. I'm a failure and I'm ashamed of myself.

To be fair most of those dates happen 5 minutes ago in my head
. If I actually work it out I’m always shocked at how long ago that was. Your youngest tin is still 5 years past its prime! Just mind blowing and a little scary, if I’m honest.
The other two are 13 and 9 years out of date. ………. Ok , that’s pretty out of date. But it still 5 minutes ago
