Just wanted the how to make video. I’m having a go at that. My material will be slightly different  Wink . The only thing I need to buy is the compost thermometer.
Will watch the other video later
Veggie how long is the probe on your hot composter thermometer? Is your bin always full enough for the probe to touch the compost ?

The thermometer is the only bit I need to buy, not sure if I should go for the 29cm or the 50cm. I’m leaning toward 29 because it’s cheaper. No point if it’s not going to work.
The one inside the bin, in the compost, is the only one I take any notice of and its shorter then 29cms. I think its identical to the one in the lid. You shove it in the compost, whatever level it is.

Thermometer is £5 on HOtbin site https://www.hotbincomposting.com/replace...meter.html
Thanks for that info Veggie. Very helpful.

Here’s progress so far on my homemade hot composter.

This was my first idea. I scrapped that quite quickly

Then started gathering other materials together

This is it at the end of the day.

The lid and top half of the front are both made. Waiting for the expanding foam to set before attaching.
Then tomorrow just need to drill holes in bottom and the top for the thermometer. Then make the hatch. Going to line it all with damp proof. And cover the outside with building paper. Not sure how to finish it.
Looking good. Big Grin
Can you put a water butt tap at the bottom to catch the liquid? Mine produces a lot. Raise the bin off the ground so that you can catch the liquid.

I was trying to work out how to do that. The YouTube video didn’t have one. He just drilled lots of holes in the bottom, raised it off the ground a bit for air circulation. I would like to collect all the liquid, it’d make a great food.
