I think you might be right about the pruning. My rosemary hardly ever gets tip pruned, in fact I don't use it very often. P just hacks the sides back occasionally to maintain access up the slope for machinery.
Thank you JJB... cuttings arrived! Potted up and ive got them on sons old snake heat mat to see if i can encourage some roots!

Glad they survived Royal Mail and quickly too.

Do you think its because we cut them so much? Mine have short stems, the pub ones are easily 2ft plus long and straight.

Hoping JJBs cuttings will take.
You’re probably right Scarlet. I'm always picking bits off mine so I guess it’s bound to make them shrubby.
I went to a lady's house this morning and, beside the front door, was a really robust rosemary. The stems looked like fir trees and there were flowers on the lower half of each main branch. It was about 3' tall. I now have cuttings - with the owner's permission. She said, take what you like, don't be modest. Big Grin
You know where i live Wink
I have been researching rosemary varieties and I think there maybe varieties that have long straight stems, often much taller and more upright.
I feel another trip to jekkas may be on the cards next year.
