In medievel days stale bread became a 'trencher' and your whole meal was eaten out of the hollowed out centre, so not such a daft idea! Tongue Tongue Big Grin
I went to a mediaeval feast in our local castle ( a re-enactment - I'm not that old!) and we ate off trenchers.
Also had clam chowder served in a hollowed out loaf. You had to eat it quickly before your bottom went soggy and leaked. Big Grin
.................nowt worse than a soggy bottom! Big Grin

I went to a supposed medievel feast once and the only item of cutlery you were given was a dagger! Cry Its hard eating soup with a dagger! Rolleyes
Nice looking loaves Vinny Smile
Next up will be bacon & cheese bread ( possibly bread buns, not sure yet?) Rolleyes Plenty of recipes online but I think I will just add cooked bacon and cheese to a normal bread mix? Smile
I think bacon jam spread on bacon bread may be a bit too much? Big Grin
This beast fresh out the oven should last me a while. Big Grin

You don't really want to know! Rolleyes

It's just a normal plaited loaf but the liquid used was fizzy bitter lemon. Looking forward to tasting it. Smile

Update, after having a slice hot with buter on, surprisingly nice with not even a hint of lemon?
