Its not just your veg that are suffering this year, read thisĀ https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-62575247
There's my excuse in a nutshell. As gardeners we're well used to wonky veg, split tom's, multi-fanged carrots and parsnips, holey cabbage, they all get picked over and popped in the pot and taste delicious. I haven't yet found a use for overgrown cucumbers though, apart from peeling and scooping the seeds out, and then there's bolting lettuce Smile
I always make an effort to buy wonky veg if I can Cool .It's notĀ just for the cost saving (which helps!) but I feel it is helping our farmers who in the past would have had to throw away perfectly edible produce because of it's wonkiness! Smile
A small thing, but perhaps we should just call it 'fruit and veg' and then those people that don't have any experience of growing stuff, so maybe don't realise that nature is wonky, will have different expectations when they go shopping?
Agreed, PP. Most of the veg that are sold as "wonky" are just normal veg in my eyes. In fact, I'd be really pleased to have grown them.
