I have no idea why but fancy growing a Mulberry tree although I have never tasted one.  I have a few questions if I may.

Are they worth it?
Easy to look after?
Diseases?

I have no idea. But look forward to the answers. Bob handed me a sapling when I got home from work yesterday. I’ve no idea what they look like, taste like or how they grow.  Blush .
I have tasted mulberries and really liked the taste. Smile   They apparently grow into large trees so I opted for a dwarf variety Charloytte Russe.
This is its second year and I can't say I am impressed. The mulberries I tasted were large fruits but this thing only has tiny fruits, and not many of them at that.
It is in a large pot and as with so many potted plants this year suffered badly from the early spring weather.Hopefully it will get it's act together for next year, or else it will get the boot! Rolleyes
I have a Mulberry tree that's about 6/7 years old and was a good size when planted. No sign of fruit yet!! Pretty tree though.
Also bought a Charlotte Russe - pathetic little fruit claiming to be mulberries. Waste of money.
Finally, a friend had a fruiting mulberry planted in his front garden alongside the drive. Big mistake!! Never park your car under a mulberry tree - the stain! Also the birds love the fruit and would eat themselves silly, then poo the remains everywhere = drive, washing etc.
The fruit remind me of loganberries.
Thanks Veggie....I think Wink
Think my sapling will be getting rehomed
Don't let me put you off it - just plant it as a tree, and it it fruits its a bonus.

Kinda like the one in the children’s nursery rhyme ‘Here we go round the mulberry bush’
BTW they're not weeds under the tree but Chinese Artichokes. Don't ask me what they taste like - they look like white maggots and I didn't fancy them on my plate!!
