Do we have any kitchen cabinets listeners? ( radio 4 )
On there last show they sliced a cucumber sprinkled sparingly with caster sugar and it tastes like melon.
We’ve just tried it. It really does taste like melon! We’ve just eaten a whole cucumber     . 

The science bit is they are both made up of the same chemicals/ compounds whatever it’s called. The only difference is melon has sugar in it. 

Try it. It’s really good and messes with your head a little bit.

I guess its a bit like the Carosello (melon/cucumber) which seems to be undecided about which it is. Some cucumbers taste sweet and some melons are boringly bland.

I might try that. I am not particularly fond of cucumbers but enjoy melons.

I prefer cucumbers to melons, especially those Beth alphas.

That’s what I used for my experiment 

Not for me, dislike both...I prefer sliced onion in mint sauce
