Anyone growing avocados from shop brought?
Someone gave me a couple last year that they had germinated. Apparently it was there lockdown hobby  Big Grin .
I repotted them a few weeks ago. As they seemed to of survived the winter in the polytunnel. They really didn’t like it! The leaves all drooped, when brown & crispy! But now they have new growth coming all over the place. I’ll take photos later.
Any advice on how to care for them? I should probably put a little more effort into looking after them as they’re trying so hard to live. Also I quite like the challenge of growing things slightly exotic / none native up here in the frozen north    Big Grin .

Photos as promised.
No help from me - sorry! I've never managed to grow one to leaf stage but I do have a handful of avocado pips staring at me.
Do you know how your friend germinated them? If its the cocktail sticks suspended over water, its not for me!!

I’ve no idea how she germinated them. I’ll ask  Smile .
Apparently they make a nice leafy house plant? I am now enthused! If yours survived in a polytunnel I could probaby get them to grow in the greenhouse during the summer bringing them indoors to a sunny windowsill for the winter?

I would be interested too! Cool
It was the cocktail sticks over water method. Apparently she watched a YouTube. The biggest tip was remove the brown skin before put the cocktail sticks in. She kept the nuts/seeds in the kitchen near the aga. Changing the water every couple of days.

Does this mean I will have to buy cocktail sticks with my Avocado's! Rolleyes I'm sure I can find some bits of wire or needles if not! Smile
Maybe a loop of wire around the stone so that it sits in it, like an egg in an eggcup.
