Evening Folks

As some of you may remember from previous posts I've been layering my beds with whatever I can get for free(grass, cardboard, leaves), plus manure and compost that was bought.

Anyway, the grass clippings my friend has provided this time are about 60/40 moss/grass, I've used this as a layer without really knowing if this is suitable or not, what do you folks think?

It's probably worth telling you the order which is cardboard, grass/moss, and leaves. I will then put a thin layer of MPC on the top when I plant/sow.

Thank you....
Would you pick every little bit of moss out of the bed if we said it shouldn't be there?

Just curious...........Wink
Any organic matter has got to improve soil, surely? Huh

Our back orchard grass is extremely mossy, therefore all the grass mowings are mossy. All the mowings go on the compost and although the moss takes longer to rot down it does eventually, and doesn't pose a problem, so therefore I can't see why it would be a problem for you. You might just find bits of moss underneath for a while.

That was my thinkingSmile
I would put it in the beds as the first layer. It will help to retain moisture. If you have it near the surface the moss will regenerate its self if it gets any light.

Bit tricky now, I could put another layer of cardboard before the compost?
Yes, good idea, the more layers you add the better - it will all rot down.

I compost moss too. I have lots in my raspberry bed
