Very good Danny. My Zebrune aren't up yet in the propagator but the shallots I bought from Aldi, supposedly for eating, are in the ground. Smile

I would say yes, they look good and hardy, but let’s see what the experts say Wink

I have shallot sets planted in outdoor raised bed.

I'm no expert but they are hardy assuming hardened off. I usually wait until the roots are just about filling the modules as it makes life a lot easier when transplanting. We're forecast a frost here Monday and Tuesday so I'd probably wait until after that just to be safe.
Mine won't be going out for a few weeks yet

Morning mcdood,

Yes good call re the frost and yes they are hardy.

I still need to get the bed ready so I going to aim for the weekend after nextSmile

I will probably have a fair bit of space left in the bed so I will also direct sow some and compare resultsSmile

I've just ordered 2 bags of shallots from DTBrown ( free P&P for Easter).

A couple of weeks ago I bought 2 bags of onion sets from DTB and they sent 4 bags with a note that "we're getting towards the end of despatches for onion and shallot sets.......and there may be a few rotten sets in the pack so we're enclosing another pack to help compensate!!.
There were NO rotten ones.Smile
I'm hoping that the shallots will also be "compensated" in the same way.

My vague plan is to lift some for use, replant some the following year and leave a few in the ground permanently to, hopefully, multiply..

My shallots have arrived and the gamble paid off - even more than with the onions.
I ordered 2 bags (Yellow Moon and Melkior) and they sent 5. Smile Smile
Before you ask - 3 Yellow Moon, 2 Melkior.

A few of the shallots look a bit shrivelled but there's more than enough for me. Better get some ground cleared for a permanent shallot bed!
