Shortly I shall have some bare ground when the MT and broardies are cleared. Probablt about 6 x15ft. In past years I've not bothered to use this ground and it stays fallow because I'm disorganised (lazy). I have a mind to fill it with summat but haven't any seedlings in the background to use. What can I sow? I've more than enough beans and courgettes, I could do lettuce/salad leaves but don't want to be overloaded in that region, we don't eat an awful lot of lettucey stuff. I already have baby chard and beetroot coming on elsewhere. Ideas on a postcard please

An idea worth considering but I prefer roasties rather than new ones and I haven't got seed potatoes, you know me, I'm against buying things , I could plant some bought spuds and take a chance.

Carrots, spring onions, overwintering cabbages, calabrese. When our mangetout are finished I'll be putting in savoy cabbage and swedes.

Will they be seeds or seedlings? Savoy and swedes are seedlings, but still fairly small and a week or two off transplanting. Swedes I think can still be sown direct. Carrots can be sown until some point in July, though the later you leave it the more you need to sow quicker maturing varieties. I only sowed my Eskimo F1 autumn/winter carrots last week.

If only I had that spare space right now.
I’ve overdone it big time - and have loads of rudbeckia Sahara, helichrysum, ammi Visnaga, Limonium suworowii and antirrhinums looking for tiny gaps anywhere,
I’ve even bought “patio pots” to try and fit some in.
Spent yesterday ripping out oxeye daisies, but it hasn’t released v much space.
Making notes in my diary for next year. I shall grow half the cornflowers and half the sweet peas and definitely not bother with Cynoglossum.
