Round courgettes

I have several packets of round courgette seeds that have sat around for a few years, including Tondo di Piacenza, Tondo di Toscana, Eight Ball, De Nice a Fruit Rond & Piccolo. 
Round courgettes don't seem "right" to me - they should be long and straight. Not just that but they should be worth picking & big enough to eat. 
According to their packets, De Nice a Fruit Rond is best eaten raw when golfball size. Eight Ball is best harvested at pool/snooker ball size. I ask you, what is the point of growing something so small? I'd need at least 6 to make a meal.
Tondo di Toscana says" can be cropped from golf ball size for eating raw, slightly larger for slicing to tennis ball size for stuffing. Even a tennis ball doesn't seem very filling to me. 
Tell me, please, do you grow round courgettes and are they worth the effort?

Once and only once, courgette to pumpkin overnight

I like round courgettes I’ve grown De Nice a Fruit Rond a lot. I usually let them get to somewhere between tennis ball & shot put size. If they get too big they grate stuffed like a marrow.

Used to, but they (tondo di nizza) were too small to be useful and then too big to be pleasant!
I'm bound to have some in my pot luck courgette collection as I didn't get any last year.

Not keen on round ones. Tried to grow them but like others have said they were either too small or too big. The long ones work better.

Ive grown round ones a few times - used them for stuffing. I'm not a lover of courgettes and dont miss them if I don't grow them. I definitely prefer the long ones - harvested very early.

Tried the Tondo di Piacenza from Real Seeds years ago. Too fleshy for me, but then I don't really like courgettes anyway.

I have never heard of round courgettes until now, will have to give them a try.

Whilst I never think they taste of much on their own we always grow them to add to onions and tomatoes to make ratatoullie.

I lurve courgettes - but not round ones - aprt from throwing them for the dogs to fetch. Grow your own pet toys.
