Tulip seeds

My tulips have got big fat seed heads. Is it worth saving the seeds? How long do tulips take from seed to flower?
Will they flower?  Will they come true?
As you can tell I know nothing  Smile .

IVe never tried it....but would think it would take several years to flower from a seed. I dug mine up this year from a pot - I was late planting them out and they have some little bulbs on the sides. I'm going to try those. But I I'm assuming same as garlic/giant garlic they take forever to get a reasonable size. So maybe a lot of bother....

I sowed some tulip seeds last week, as it happens. Three nice ripe seed pods on a pot of species tulips that flowered back in early April, I've never tried to grow them before but I thought why not. I sowed in a pot of 50-50 compost and grit, covered in grit and put in a corner of the greenhouse. I suspect that in the wild they would wait out the hot dry summer and germinate in the autumn. But I'm guessing, it's more fun than researching Smile
