RE: Bee Friendly Flowers for Cutting - Small chilli - 08-01-2021

I’ll do more googling and translating later. Must play in kitchen.
I’ve got 5 from the list of A’s

RE: Bee Friendly Flowers for Cutting - JJB - 08-01-2021

That was a labour of love Veggie. Sadly I'm none the wiser but I'll have a look to see if I recognise any.

It was an excuse not to go out in the cold, JJB. Wink
You must recognise some of those flowers - aster, calendula, cosmos, dahlia and more. If you don't, now is a good time to learn. Tongue

You're right, I grow all of those with varying degrees of success, and will continue to do so.

I know you just like to play dumb - but you're not really ! Smile

If you reduce the duplicated names to one of each (like 5 different Salvias = 1) there are 62 different plants. Wonder how many of those I can grow this year.?
Some I grow now..............must give this some thought!

Anyone up for a Challenge?

Calendula officinalis
Callistephus chinensis = China aster
Calluna vulgaris = heather
Campanula medium = Canterbury bell
Campanula persicifolia = bellflower
Catananche caerulea = Cupid's dart
Centaurea cyanus = cornflower
Centaurea macrocephala = bighead knapweed + lots of other names
Centaurea montana = perennial cornflower
Cerinthe major var purpurescens = honeywort
Chrysanthemum indicum
Clarkia elegans
Coreopsis lanceolata
Cosmos bipinnatus
Cosmos sulphureus
Cota tinctoria = yellow chamomile
Cynara cardunculus = cardoon , artichoke thistle
Cynoglossum amabile = Chinese hound's tongue or Chinese forget-me-not

I’ve only got 4 of these. 2 others grow close at hand so can harvest seeds.

Dahlia
Delphinium elatum
Dianthus barbatus
Digitalis purpurea = foxglove
Dipsacum fullonum = wild teasel

Echinacea purpurea
Echinops banaticus = known as blue globe-thistle
Echinops ritro
Erigeron speciosus = many names ending in fleabane
Eryngium giganteum = another type of thistle
Eryngium planum
Eschscholzia californica = Californian poppy ( I guessed that one correctly )

Thanks for writing all these flowers out veggie. I’m leaning a lot, googling all of them. Some I know some I should know , but just can’t get the name to stick in my tiny head, like digitalis.

Only have 3 off this list.

RE: Bee Friendly Flowers for Cutting - Spec - 09-01-2021

Qurious to know if everyone can grow Verbena bonariensis as perennials I have to grow them as annuals they never last from one year to the next here and its not just me as my neighbour who also gardens has the same problem
