The Windrow is the name of a magazine about Scything.

Spot on Jimny, I didn't know that, I must admit. It all came about because we saw a post on our local 'Nextdoor' app that a lady had put all her windfall apples in her green bin and the bin men refused to take it. We couldn't figure out why, apart from the fact it might be classified as 'food waste'. Rang our local council and they laughed and said our bin men don't know what's inside your bin, they don't inspect it before they collect it. But, having investigated further on the council's environmental waste web pages, they say no windfall fruit at all in the green bins. This is because they use a window composting system and if they accepted windfalls they would have to have indoor, larger, temperature controlled premises. I always thought the green waste had to be composted to a controlled temperature to kill weeds and seeds. I am not going to buy garden compost from our local recycling centre if that isn't the case.

It may be a one-off magazine! I picked it up when I went to a Scythe Festival in Somerset many years ago. I lead a fascinating life. Smile
They had scything demonstrations including a lady who was straight out of Thomas Hardy, long flowery dress and barefeet. I think she was the Lady Champion scyther.
And there were races between petrol strimmers/bushcutters and scythers to see who could clear an area the fastest. Of course, the scythers won.
There were pedal powered icecream vendors and plenty of scrumpy.................and yes, I did buy a scythe although I haven't used it for many years.

How about PEENING?

RE: Another silly game - JJB - 02-10-2020

I know peening, but I'll leave it a while to see if any one else does

RE: Another silly game - Veggie - 02-10-2020

SNATH.................?

RE: Another silly game - JJB - 02-10-2020

Not a clue! That's a good one. Old English? Something to do with horses, agricultural equipment? Pure guess.

NUDIUSTERTIAN

and it's not rude! Smile

And the answer is......

Of or relating to the day before yesterday; very recent.

I wasn't sure what it meant but broke it down to "Dius" - day and Tertian = three. Still don't know whether that's relevant or I'm making it up.Smile
